Our goal is antique preservation in the true
style of the European Renaissance Tradition. Over the past 20 years, our hands have been guided in all restorations by the
sense of pride and honor that our forefathers established in the creation of their masterpieces. Antiques, as we see them
now were created in a much simpler time, a time when we were not splitting atoms, a time when the weather tomorrow really
mattered, and a time when books were written by hand.
The Masters had to preserve their works from
extreme atmospheric changes and thus they created Shellac. Shellac is the mixture of alcohol, tree resins and insect excrement.
Not only is it beautiful because of the depth it accentuates in the grain of the wood but it ages to an extraordinary
patina and it truly lasts through the most unlikely conditions.
In Brief: Only Royalty could afford
finely crafted and inlayed furniture. The stone castles they lived in were freezing cold. Large bonfires
were built to heat the immense rooms with inordinately high ceilings. Fires were only kept burning when the Royalty were in
attendance therefor the furniture, art and decorative objects in the room would go from freezing temperatures to blistering
heat and back to freezing again with in a few short hours. Undoubtedly bad for the furnishings; none the
less this was a daily occurrence.
Contemporary finishes and artifical
polyurethane would rapidly disintegrate if put under the same conditions.
